Day 1: Chilaw

Ayubowan to our bike tours this morning. Jump start to an early morning warm up after a cycling and route brief followed by a short transfer to the outskirts.  Start cycling from coastal Negombo and experience the inland delights of Sri Lanka. We bike along the costal roads towards the fishing communities and the villages that dot the west coast. With peace, good food and a great start you’re up and ready for an insightful tour into rural Serendib.

Day 2: Anuradhapura

Early morning risers enjoy the best time of day for cycling. Bike today on open road past the Willapattu National Park towards the ancient city of Anuradhapura. Watch locals and vegetable vendors set up their road-side shops while also waving and laughing at you. Later in the day, visit the sacred city of Anuradhapura and the temples that are spread around this ancient mythical site. The Ancient City of Anuradhapura highlights the strong Buddhist culture in the region. The city’s greatest treasures are the dagobas constructed of bricks which are hemispherical in shape. The city’s most renowned relic is the sacred Bo Tree, which is said to have grown from a branch of the tree under which the Buddha gained enlightenment.

Day 3: Habarana

Leaving Anuradhapura early you head up past vast stretches of paddy fields first on tarmac roads and in between red dirt roads. The tour takes you into the country-side and makes sure you get a feel of the sounds and habits of a Lankan village. Your ride takes you into the UNESCO World Heritage site of Sigiriya which has ancient remains as early as the 15th century BC. This ancient site stands testimony to the Sri Lankan culture, beliefs and habits of the rulers of Ceylon. After lunch at your hotel, you’re free to laze around in a pool or chit-chat with birds in the park.

Day 4: Illukumbura

Check-out from Sigiriya after breakfast and transfer to the trekking point at Illukumbra. This place is famous for the Knuckles Hill Ranges, called because it looks like the knuckles of a clenched fist. The view is visible from many viewpoints. We will start our hike from Illukumbra towards the Manigala mountain. You will hike through the lush montane evergreen forest along the Knuckles valley until we reach the top of the Manigala mountain. Once you reach the top, you can enjoy a spectacular 360 degree view of the Knuckles mountain ranges. We will spend some time here before trekking back to our campsite. Overnight stay will at the Manigala camp-site.

Day 5: Knuckles Range

Your second day of trekking adventure takes you from Manigala towards the Kalu Ganga. We will be hiking along the pathways of a lush rainforest on this route. There’s a few kilometres to climb before we trek down the valley to walk along the shores of the Kalu Ganga River. While walking through this stretch, you have the option to take a quick dip in the Kalu Ganga. You will also come across many streams and waterfalls on the walk to the campsite. Overnight stay will at the Kalu Ganga camp-site.

Day 6: Kandy

We will leave the camp after breakfast and start cycling downhill towards the spice country of Matala and then bike to Kandy, a city renowned for the Temple of the Tooth relic. The temple is magnificently decorated & is highly venerated by the people of the island. After your stop and walk to the Royal Botanical Gardens of Peradeniya, head out biking towards the hill country. The routes are undulating with a few climbs and many descents. Hop into your hotel for lunch and enjoy the rest of your day overlooking the lake.

Day 7: Nuwara Eliya

Today we are cycling towards the tea country of Nuwara Elia. Nuwara Eliya, also known as ‘Little’ England’, was the favourite hill station of the British who tried to create it into a typical English Village. We will cycle to the hill country with tea plantations on either side, Hindu temples and the small colourful homes of the tea workers. If time permits you could also walk into the Nuwara Eliya markets.

Day 8: Ella

Today we are heading out of the city cycling towards Ella which is a packed wildlife spot with giant squirrels and many birds. In the folklores, it says that the Sri Lankan demon King Ravana abducted Sita from India and kept her hidden in the Hakgala National Park. The area was offered to Sita as a pleasure garden which is mentioned in the Ramayana (Hindu Epic) as Ashok Vatika. Ella situated in a beautiful countryside, with small vegetable plots in the valleys, tea plantations on the hill slopes and forests on the tops.

Day 9: Udawalawe National Park

From Ella you cycle downhill all the way past many villages before heading towards Udawalawe National Park. You will pass local markets before entering the National park area. The area is home to many fruit trees and will notice fruit sellers as well as families selling yogurt along the streets. After lunch bike further before heading to a cozy hotel with a pool to compliment at Nil Diya Mankada.

Day 10: Unawatuna

Cycling to the souther coast and then transfer to Unawatuna beach after the jungle safari in the Udawalawe National park with confirmed sightings of elephants in the wild. The charming town of Galle is one of Sri Lanka’s most fascinating sea-side retreats and the fourth largest city in Sri Lanka. Arrive at your hotel, check-in and spend some time at leisure. Evening, you can go for visiting Galle Fort – a world heritage site build by the Portuguese. Enjoy the sunset at Galle Fort and get back to the hotel for overnight stay.
